I've been at Disney World for two days now and I am certain I have heard the words "thank you" a thousand times. Also "welcome," "are you enjoying yourself?" and "good morning."
I'm hear on business and I realize being part of the media during a media event means I'm getting extra-special treatment, but I have seen the very same Disney Cast Members (everyone who works here is called cast member) treat the general public with the same friendliness. I don't mean this to sound like a commercial, but this place really is friendly. And fun.
And I met Mickey and Minnie.

We actually went to WDW for our honeymoon... it was a darn fun time. Apparently, the working code is that everywhere "public" within the park is considered a "stage" which they're on the whole time. They may be merely acting out a part, but it's still so nice to be someplace where they're outwardly so nice, polite and helpful.
Ooh, meeting Mickey and Minnie? What a score!

Mrs. EDog and I went to Disney World for our honeymoon. We had a good time, humidity notwithstanding. We're considering going back with the kids for our tenth anniversary, but we don't know if we can cope with that trauma yet.

Velvet Girl - your "stage" reference is apparantly a big deal here. I've had a little bit of behind-the-scenes access on this trip, and at one point our Disney rep walked us through a door with a sign on it that read "CAUTION: THIS DOOR OPENS DIRECTLY ONTO THE STAGE". The door opened into the middle of one of the restaurants.
Yes, Mickey AND Minnie. I'm trying to post a picture of the encounter, but no luck so far.
Ian - your kids would love this place. You too... there's plenty of music here. The new Nemo stage show is cool, even for an adult who knows nothing about Nemo.
I went to WDW when I was 14 and my brothers were 6. We made my parents ride every single ride there. *that wasn't a baby type ride* We even rode the Dumbo ride.
There are so many new things there since then...I can't wait to take our girls.
Until they get a little older I've been trying to get the hubby to go with just me..no luck yet.

My family and I are Disney enthusiasts and we've been there on vacation many times... my dream came true the summer after my sophomore year in college when I got to work there and be a Cast Member in the Magic Kingdom. Let me tell you... every single new employee goes through three 14-hour days of "Disney Boot Camp" where we learn the ins and outs of the Walt Disney Company and learn the "Disney" way. You are given a script of things to say in almost every given situation and they even have a Cast Member appearance code... which I've heard has been relaxed a little in the last few years, but was totally strict when I was there (down to the point where they told you how many and what kinds of rings you were allowed to wear on your fingers.)
You are totally right... anywhere a guest can see you is called the "stage" and whether you're one of the actors/dancers in a show, or merely a street popcorn vendor... you're a part of the "big show" and have to play your part. It was hard to be that nice all the time and they work you to death for little to no money... but it was by far the best summer of my life!
I could go on forever about my experience and have TONS of stories!
KJ - that's so cool. What did you do there?
Note to other readers: KJ and I work about 100 feet apart but we're so busy at work that we know more about each other from reading our blogs than we do from talking at work. What a crazy world.
